A giant problem named Ondoy

I know I’m supposed to post this year yesterday but the clean-up after the Ondoy typhoon took time and a most of my strength to accomplish that I hardly want to do anything (even think) afterwards. It was a gloomy and gold Saturday. When I woke up, I knew rain was coming from the dark skies. So I, my dad and sister prepared ourselves for it. We took all laundry in, covered our dog’s cage so she would not get wet, we prepared candles and flashlights for the possibility of blackout, etc. We take

From The New York Times, where you can read the entire article on exporting trash by clicking here By ELISABETH ROSENTHAL Published: September 26, 2009 ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands — When two inspectors swung open the doors of a battered red shipping container here, they confronted a graveyard of Europe’s electronic waste — old wires, electricity meters, circuit boards — mixed with remnants of cardboard and plastic. “This is supposed to be going to China, but it isn’t going anywhere,” sa

By John McLaughlinIt was a startling admission.  Prior to passage of “Cap-and-Trade” legislation by the House of Representatives, Mr. Henry Waxman (D, CA), House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman and co-sponsor of the bill, in responding to a question from Mr. Joe Barton (R, TX) at a May 22 hearing, admitted the following:I certainly don’t claim that I know everything that’s in this bill.  I know we left it to ….we relied very heavily on the scientists on the IPCC and others and the consens

America is the only country that rations the right to health care to those 65 and older. Lack of health insurance kills 45,000 American adults a year, according to a n

Coal ETFs Are Here to Stay

Tom Lydon (ETF Trends) submits: Despite the recent push for clean energy, coal and its exchange traded funds could still find a home as more nations join the fight to combat global warming. In fact, coal is the world’s fastest-growing fuel based on consumption. So much so that it leaves crude oil and natural gas in the dust. The demand is on the rise, too: consumption of coal grew by 5.7 for oil and 3% for natural gas. This trend is expected to

China Criticized For Seizing Moral High Ground On Environment

Massive traffic pileup in Los Angeles, California “If the U.S. isn’t careful, it might get lapped” Is it just me, or is this ridiculous? I’m not a regular reader of Bryan Walsh, but he seems to be TIME magazine’s writer for all things environmental. TIME’s Bryan Walsh says China “managed to seize the moral high ground – fairly or not” in last week’s climate talks . Walsh points the finger at China–this time, strangely, not because of China’s refusal to be held accountable for the env
