Potential major geologic consequences of global warming: Volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides

Three years ago I referred to a Wall Street Journal piece on possible geologic effects — volcanoes and earthquakes  — of global warming. This drove the right wing crazy. Numerous global warming denial sites linked to it as an indication of how silly those concerned about global warming can get. Today I post a Reuters piece about a conference of geologists and earth scientists concerned about the same issue, now with three years more data: Global warming may bring tsunami and quakes-scie

Could Cap and Trade Lead to the Next Financial Bubble?

CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler tried to assuage the fears of the House Agriculture Committee. (image: wsj.net) The over-speculation and wild financial risks that have contributed to the current economic crisis are looming large in the minds of several senators as they weigh the new carbon cap and trade bill, reports the New York Times . World Bank says “Climate-Smart” world is feasible

Climate change threatens all countries, with developing countries the most vulnerable. The World Bank estimates that they would bear some 75 to 80 percent of the costs of damages caused by the changing climate.  An equitable global climate deal is needed – one that  recognizes the varying needs of developing countries and supports them with the finance and technology to meet the challenges to development. According to the World Bank’s World Development Report 2010 , a “climate-smart” world is

Global Warming Update: Snow has been falling on almost every continent on earth over the past week

I am sorry, you will have to forgive, but I did find this rather funny. As I was reading through the news relating to the current apocalyptic position we find ourselves in today with regard to “human man-made global warming”, the first article I read came from the BBC, who reliably informed me that we will need to come up with $100 billion for the developing world alone (according to World Bank Study) in order to….err….keep the world cool or something and all survive?Anyway, some good news on the
