10 Yetis Good and Bad Public Relations – Friday 3 July 2009

My very first good and bad PR… Good PR Air New Zealand has come up with an ingenious way of getting the passengers of their domestic routes to pay attention to the in-flight safety video. Cabin crew and a pilot from the airline feature in the video wearing nothing but body paint cleverly done to resemble their actual uniforms and the video is made family-friendly thanks to strategically placed seat belts, luggage and oxygen masks. The “Bare Essentials of Safety” video lasts for 3 minut

New York obtains a real-time CO2 meter

United States, New York – Deutsche Bank, in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has installed a giant meter few days ago which unveils billion tonnes of CO2 emitted anywhere in the world in real-time. Installed near Madison Square Garden a few days ago by Deutsche Bank and MIT, a university and a research center, the giant meter is also available on the website of the German bank so that New Yorkers are not the only ones to become aware of the urgency of reducing em

George’s Blog 27th and 28th June 2009: Mombasa to Nairobi

These two days are spent travelling from the east coast in Mombasa, west through Nairobi and north to Nanyuki. Handshake volunteers were in effect enjoying two days off to see some of the Kenyan country to add to their broadening experience of this diverse country. Three quarters of Kenya is arid or semi-arid, and government concerns about global warming are now rising, as the implications are being better understood. The Great Primate Handshake has taken these implications into account in plann

Cap and Trade – A Politician’s Response

Cap and Trade. It passed the Congress and will be heading for the Senate. I am proud to say that my Congressman, Marion Berry (D) Arkansas, voted against the bill. Standing with 43 other Democrats in opposition to the will of Nancy Pelosi. Thanks Congressman Berry! After the bill passed the House, I started calling and emailing my Senators, Lincoln and Pryor, to get their positions on this proposal. One of Lincoln’s staffers called me a couple of days after I emailed her to get my position

“taking cars off the road”, or climate tokenism?

There’s no shortage of references these days in corporate and government reports to earnest, new steps to fight climate change. Often they promise to make carbon emissions cuts equivalent to taking millions of cars off the road… For example, take Europe’s fourth biggest single source of carbon emissions, Britain’s Drax coal plant. It said in March that as a result of efficiency improvements it had cut carbon emissions equivalent to taking 195,000 cars off the road.  But of course that was

Credo: Without a shared moral code there can be no freedom in our society

Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks Sub-prime mortgages, financial collapse, MPs expenses: these and other recent scandals are more than mere passing events. They have left Parliament and the market, the twin foundations of the free society, in disarray. What has been lost is trust — our trust in those we chose to look after our affairs — and trust is the basis of society. If we are to recover it, we must ask some deep questions. Thus far we have had a festival of blame, and there have been som

When Columnists’ Brains Short-Circuit

Once upon a time, MSM reporters, columnists, and editors mediated our information environment.  Authoritative newspapers, such as the New York Times, and newsroom, like Walter Cronkite, not only determined what the news of the day was but also established the acceptable parameters for discussing the news.  The advent of the blogosphere introduced a complication in this structure.  Suddenly, true experts in their fields could discuss what they considered to be the news in an unmediated fashion wi

Debunking Obama’s Cap and Trade and Global Warming Myths

As the USA population is now firmly under One-Party rule, it becomes even more essential that the truth is disseminated to the people—for as long as will be allowed. Scientists have been opposing the global warming hype since it was first introduced by the United Nations and, then, former US VP Al Gore. These scientists
